This afternoon I needed to get my stress level down, try to recoup some positive energy to deal with my pain level. I find music one of the most therapeutic. From the time I was a child I had music all around me. My family are musical people, and eclectic in their music tastes. From jazz to classical, rock to trance, zydeco Cajun, French, Spanish and Greek, I have had a great deal of different forms of music around me. Mon Papa played the guitar and the mandolin. I have an Uncle who plays and sings so much like Jim Croce it’s uncanny. I played the alto saxophone for most of my young life, unfortunately an allergy to the reeds made me have to set that aside. I have trumpeters in the family whom were headliners in the jazz clubs of New Orleans. Mon Grandpa had the very first radio show in Santa Fe where he sang Spanish canciones live every weekend. He had a voice that was so strong, he did not require a microphone. They had to turn it almost completely off when he performed in clubs and small venues.
Music takes you away, it leads you on a journey of adventure and discovery. Music carries the mind on the notes, stirring memories, emotions and often helping one heal. So I sat for an hour, with guitar in hand, singing old songs from my childhood. My Kittycats did not run away, so it must not have been too bad on their ears. Fill your day with music when you can, and may the journey of the notes bring you something positive.
